JLU School of Law Holds the International Conference on “The CPC and the Progress on Human Rights in China” --- Conference Overview

The year 2021 marks the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC). On this memorable and important occasion, the International Conference on “The CPC and the Progress on Human Rights in China” was held in Changchun on April 8th. The conference aims to better explain the ideas and discourse of human rights, and as well as the experience and model on human rights protection. The conference was sponsored by China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) and the Publicity Department of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, and hosted by Jilin University Human Rights Center, Jilin University School of Law and Jilin University Center for Jurisprudence Research.

Xiangba Pingcuo, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 12th National Peoples Congress (NPC) and president of the CSHRS; Jiang Jianguo, deputy minister of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC; Xu Xianming, Vice President of CSHRS, member of the Standing Committee of the NPC and vice chair of the Supervision and Judicial Affairs Committee of the NPC; Li Junru, vice president of the CSHRS and former vice president of the Central Party School; Shi Yugang, member of the Standing Committee of the NPC Jilin Provincial Party Committee and minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Jilin Provincial Party Committee attended the conference. The attendees also include Jiang Zhiying, secretary of CPC Committee of Jilin University and president of Human Rights Center of Jilin University; Zhangxi, President of Jilin University; Cai Lidong, vice president of Jilin University; Lu Guangjin, secretary general of CSHRS and Kuang Yaming Professor of Jilin University; Zhou Chunguo, secretary of CPC Committee of JLU School of Law; He Zhipeng, dean of JLU School of Law and executive director of Human Rights Center.


The conference includes online and offline participation. A total of more than 100 representatives, scholars, experts and international students from more than 20 countries took attendance.

Approaching from multi-cultural perspectives, the participants discussed topics on President Xi Jinpings lectures on human rights, development of the CPCs human rights, the CPCs people-oriented thought and practice, the global significance and theoretical construction of the CPCs centenary cause of human rights, and other major issues. In addition, the discussion reached broad consensus on further strengthening the research and interpretation of human rights theory in the context of President Xi’s important spirit and as well as adopting Marxism to Chinese conditions, affirming the achievements of the human rights cause of the CPC, continuously improving people’s standard of life, strengthening the rights for all countries to develop appropriate human rights concepts and practices according to their own national status, and opposing interference in other countries internal affairs with human rights as a weapon.


This conference is another major conference in the field of human rights hosted by JLU School of Law following the conference on “70 Years of Human Rights in China: Road, Practice and Theory” in 2019, the international conference on “National Responsibility for Human Rights Protection in Public Health Crisis” in 2020, and the side event of the UN Human Rights Council 46th Session on “Multilateralism and Human Rights Development: Human Rights Cooperation and Achievements between China and the Belt and Road Initiative Countries” in 2021. As the main organizer, JLU School of Law attached great importance to this international conference and paid great efforts on it.
